Fripp Island, SC
Street-legal golf carts and LSVs for Fripp Island
Fripp Island is a private, gated community in Beaufort County, and its roads are common property of the Fripp Island Property Owners Association (FIPOA). We found no separate county cart ordinance for the island, so South Carolina law applies on public roads, and FIPOA's published rules apply inside the gate. FIPOA says the island's streets have multi-modal paths for pedestrians, bicycles and golf carts that cross the roadway. Every Backyard Escapism cart is built as a street-legal LSV in 4, 6 and 8 seat layouts with lithium batteries.

Fripp Island golf cart questions
Can I drive a golf cart or LSV on Fripp Island?
Yes. FIPOA requires every privately owned golf cart to be registered with its Security office and insured. South Carolina law allows a titled, registered LSV on public roads posted 35 mph or less. FIPOA's published rules don't mention LSVs by name, so ask FIPOA Security how to register one.
How do I register a cart with FIPOA?
Call FIPOA Security at (843) 838-2334 to book an appointment, and bring the cart and proof of insurance. FIPOA charges no inspection fee for an owner's cart; rental and guest carts pay a fee.
What equipment does FIPOA require?
Working headlights, taillights, brake lights and a rear-view mirror on any golf cart. Our carts are built as street-legal LSVs with lights, turn signals, mirrors, a windshield and a seat belt for every seat.
Are there age or curfew rules?
South Carolina requires LSV and golf cart drivers on public roads to be at least 16 with a valid license, and FIPOA requires golf cart drivers to carry a copy of their license. FIPOA bars anyone under 18 from driving a golf cart between midnight and 5 am.
