Melbourne golf cart questions
Can I drive a golf cart on Melbourne streets?
A standard golf cart may only use roads designated for golf carts with a posted limit of 30 mph or less, and must follow any stricter local ordinance. A titled, registered and insured low-speed vehicle (LSV) with a licensed driver can use streets posted 35 mph or less.
What do I need to drive an LSV in Melbourne?
A valid driver's license with you, plus a title, registration and Florida insurance with at least $10,000 PIP and $10,000 PDL.
Can a golf cart be converted to an LSV in Florida?
Yes, but the cart must be street legal first. It is then inspected at a Motorist Services Regional Office, with photos, forms and receipts for the parts, before it gets a VIN, title and registration. Our carts come built as street-legal LSVs.
What is the difference between a golf cart and an LSV?
Under Florida law a golf cart cannot go faster than 20 mph, while a low-speed vehicle (LSV) has a top speed between 20 and 25 mph. An LSV has a VIN, seat belts, lights and mirrors, and is titled, registered and insured like a car. Our carts are built as street-legal LSVs.
