Golf carts and LSVs in Palm Springs
- Golf carts may only use the 13 streets the city has designated as golf cart routes, such as Sierra Way, Alhambra Drive and Avenida Granada.
- On those routes a golf cart may only carry people and golf equipment to or from a golf course, and after dark it must meet California Vehicle Code equipment rules.
- Palm Springs defines a golf cart as carrying no more than two people, including the driver, at no more than 15 mph.
- An LSV may not be driven on any road with a speed limit over 35 mph. It may cross a faster road at an intersection of about 90 degrees if the crossing starts and ends on roads posted 35 mph or less.
- California defines an LSV, also called a neighborhood electric vehicle, as a four-wheeled motor vehicle with a top speed over 20 mph and up to 25 mph and a gross vehicle weight rating under 3,000 pounds.
- An LSV is subject to the same Vehicle Code rules as any other motor vehicle, and its driver to the same rules as any other driver.
